It’s that time of year…. let’s organise your garage storage! We know it may be one of your new year’s resolutions or it may have been sitting on your to do list throughout 2022, but this summer is the perfect time to start organising your garage and maximise your space. A clean and organised garage is a great way to start the year and will save you time when you start all the weekend projects you’re planning for the year ahead.
When it comes to organising large spaces such as the garage, it really pays off to plan out your storage space and work out how much room you have to work with. You may have more or less room than you’ve realised and you can declutter accordingly. To get started, you may need to invest in some garage shelving, we recommend the Montgomery 5 Tier Shelving Unit that will fit four of our 55L Heavy Duty Containers on each shelf.
Now that you have a plan, it’s time to start decluttering! In some cases, this may require a skip bin (depending on how many items you’ve accumulated over the years and when your last clean out was). Getting rid of items that no longer serve you is an important step in the organising process. If your belongings are still in good condition, try to donate them to someone in need. Removing clutter creates space and makes organising a whole lot easier. An uncluttered area creates an uncluttered mind, they work hand in hand, and who doesn’t want that?
Tip – Create a designated recycling area to promote a green home. Teach the kids to separate paper and cardboard, plastic, glass, compost and other items
Next, sort items into categories that make sense for you, it could be gardening tools, power tools, Christmas, toys, sports equipment and your CD collection (if they didn’t go in the skip bin). Make use of our handy Heavy Duty Insert Trays for any smaller items that are likely to get lost at the bottom of a container.
Now you just need to keep on top of your garage organisation! Take the time after each project to put everything back in the right spot, you’ll thank yourself later. For more storage tips, tricks and ideas, visit our blog or follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
